Important Info

What to bring: Food, blanket/bed, and anything else your dog needs while you're away. However, we don't recommend bringing your expensive dog bed, or your dog's favorite toys from puppyhood, or anything you really value. We work hard to keep everything straight, but things can get ruined and mixed up. We have extra food and blankets if needed. Please label everything you bring. We can accommodate medication and special food needs are fine.

A typical day: Dogs are let out into the yard around 7am. They enjoy a few hours of play and are fed breakfast. In the middle of the day they rest in their individual pens (about 5' x 5') to nap and relax. In the afternoon they are let outside again to play and socialize. Dogs that are less social, old, or mellow, can be let out alone or in small groups in a separate fenced-in yard. At 6:00pm they come in for dinner. At 9:00pm they are let out again to socialize and go to the bathroom before bedtime at 10:00pm. Our facility is heated and air-conditioned.

What to expect, the good and the bad: Most dogs really enjoy their time at Hidden Acres and return home healthy and tired from playing. However, here are some things that you should be aware of if you are new to boarding your dog. Some dogs are so active that they become exhausted, have diarrhea, lose weight, or come home with a mild limp from muscle strain. Dogs that normally have limited interaction with other dogs can be exposed to new viruses, and just like at a daycare for children, some viruses can spread. Kennel Cough, or bordatella, is rare, but occasionally there are outbreaks, even among dogs who have been vaccinated. Like the flu vaccine for humans, the bordatella vaccine protects against the most common strains, but not every strain of Kennel Cough.

We require all dogs to have the bordetella vaccination with in 6 months of staying at Hidden Acres. The vaccination becomes less effective after 6 months. We disinfect the kennel pens and common areas daily, and do not provide common drinking containers in an effort to keep our facility as germ-free as possible. Generally dogs recover from any of these things with a few days of rest after boarding (and sometimes they sleep for many days straight!) and do not require a trip to the vet, but please use your judgement.
** Please note, Hidden Acres will not reimburse should you decide to bring your dog to vet.
